All these people calling for union concessions when the company was going bankrupt. Now that the concessions were made and the companies are making billions in profit are they calling for the company to give the workers a raise?

@Mrparrot73 You forgot the part about GM workers being constantly exposed to noise, toxic chemicals, slip/trip hazards, extreme temperatures, dangerous machinery, high voltage, repetetive motion injuries, asbestos, fork truck traffic, dangerous fumes and other inustrial hazards. I doubt you would work in a GM plant for twice as much as you make right now. Enjoy your comfy surroundings, you deserve them. At the same time do not begrudge a decent wage to those who also deserve them.

It’s funny that people say it’s the Union Wages that caused the problems with GM… I mean, seriously? How about the fact they made Shit Cars that no one wanted to buy for over a decade?

Funny, when I was in the Steel Workers Union I didn’t make twice the salary and benefits of the private sector. Sounds like you’ve been swallowing propaganda. Don’t worry though, we’ll build that Tea Party Utopia where there is no more middle class and we are all equally poor except of course for the rich. You should read some history on the coal unions since you are determined to repeat it

You said your a mathematician so Im interested in hearing the practical uses for these problems. I knwo we need maths every day but not the kind your talking about. I suppose it taught us to split the atom, mind you that didnt work out to well for the Japs now did it

@Mrparrot73 Excuse me but how the fuck would you know how hard I worked, Ive finished my trade as a fitter machinist and depite what ppl think trades are NOT a walk in the park, the only difference between my education and yours is mines usefull. And heres a heads up I finished HS as alot of trades and non trades ppl do. As for your not complaining remark well it sure sounds like your whining to me buddy. Not my fault you wasted your life doing math that at the end of the day does nothing

Its funny how all these bankers and lawyers with degrees up the wazoo end up loosing all of a companies money but somehow its the guy who can hardly feed his family that feals the pinch. Not everyone can afford a good education are you saying they should be punished for that, its their fault they dont have degrees in thermal dynamics or some shit like that. Im just saying we need the average working joe

@GeneralG1810 I’m not richer than you, I’m poorer than you. I worked a lot harder than you did all my life at school and I am not complaining. After years of grad school, I am often surprised at how much money I have now. I feel rich, though I make less money than you do.
All I am asking is why you feel a laborer’s job, which almost anyone could be taught to do, is so valuable as to “deserve” more pay than even a faculty member. Or do you want more than you “deserve”?

The world wasnt built with quantum physics, yes we need math for everyday stuff but not the kind of shit you do. When it comes down to it who makes the world turn white collar or blue. Who would service your flashy car not another straight A grad student I garentee it. Just because we didnt get a degree in chemistry doesnt give rich ppl the right to treat us like shit

@GeneralG1810 I suggest you immediately enroll in Ivy League grad school for math and spend 4 years having fun. How hard can it be to get a math phd in the Ivy League? Surely it cant be harder than getting a D in the 6th grade which is what most GM laborers did, right? Then all of you GM and other union workers can be university faculty like me and live the fun, easy life.

@GeneralG1810 Right. Here’s my profile: Straight A student in high school and college, 4 years grad school, Ivy League Math PhD. Current pay $4700/mo before taxes, job security: 3 yr non renewable contract, pension: none.
GM worker: Based on $30/hr… about $4800/mo, job security: absolute (union contract) pension: Yes
Yes, we need to make life more fair for those hardworking straight D kids who didn’t finish high school and work at GM. Those poor dears deserve way more!

Unions are bad we should be happy to work fro $1.50 and hour and only get a single 20 min break in a 12 hour day. Also whats with all this OHS crap just be carefull with what your doing if you get hurt obviously you did something wrong didnt you…

@wolfe419 Unfortunately, you’re right. But, on the other side of things, Management will take advantage of their workers in any way possible. Not all managers are like that, and not all workers are like that. I’ve seen with my own eyes, a Co-worker of mine being written up for not skipping his Lunch Break to finish fixing a car. This is a guy who’s been with the Company for 15 years, and, on top of that, he’s Diabetic. So what’s he going to do? File a complaint with Labour Relations?

There’s a difference between government unions and private sector unions. Government unions negotiate with fellow government politicians who they own. This breeds corruption whereby we end up with salaries and benefit packages that are twice amount of the private sector.
What the ultimate result…..liberal utopian States such as California can’t fire the crappy teachers while the state goes bankrupt and kids can read.
Another way of looking at government union is the anti-taxpayer union.

Think about it, the UAW has set the benchmark for middle class wages over the years people need to wise up and look past their own jealousy and fight for union jobs. Union busting is a way to divide and conquer (Put aside your anger over your own low wage and look at this from a different angle) BASHING and BUSTING UNIONS will not make your life better!!!!! It will drive down all wages!!!! Think about it!!!!

I worked for GM & was a union rep for 20 of my 35 yrs. The myth that unions were the cause of GM`s financial collapse is probably the biggest hoax perpetuated by those on the Right to benefit big business. If you really want to know how GM got into that mess just Google General Motors Getting Eaten Alive by a Free Lunch, By Allan Sloan, it will explain in detain. It was written April 19, 2005. And lets not forget Fox and others like Rep. Richard Shelbys (R) AL, UAW workers $72 per Hr. lie!
